NOTICE OF HALIFAX NR SUB-GROUP ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Halifax NR Sub-Group will hold its 2024 Annual General meeting on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Old Triangle Irish Alehouse at 5136 Prince Street Halifax, NS, from 4:30-7:30 pm AT. https://www.oldtriangle.com/welcom

Dinner will be provided along with refreshment and door prizes. This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow professionals from different federal departments in a relaxed social setting. This is also an opportunity to discuss issues and exchange ideas in areas of common concern and meet new friends. This year we will again have two representatives from our National Executive, Dale Hudson and Dave Young in attendance. Dale Hudson was a member of the PIPSC Central Bargaining Team and Dave Young was a member of our National NR bargaining team which just announced they have reached a tentative agreement with Treasury Board on December 14, 2023. Most of you should have recently received your ratification package via email from our National President, Gary Corbett. Dave will be onsite to answer any questions you might have on the bargaining process and the tentative agreement. The ratification vote for our new collective agreement will occur 2-16 February 2024.

We will also be electing our new Sub-Group Executive to a new term. All positions are open for election and would invite you all to consider getting involved and serving as part of the Sub-Group. You can nominate yourself, a friend or forward your name to myself and I’ll be more than happy to put your name forward. The following positions are up for election:

President (2 Year Term)

Vice-President (2 Year Term)

Treasurer (2 Year Term)

Secretary (2 Year Term)

(2) Member At Large (1 Year Term)

At the conclusion of the AGM, Dale Hudson will facilitate a discussion on contracting out within DND. Dale is the chair of our NR Group Contracting Out committee and has devoted a significant amount of time to this topic and is soliciting your input and personal experience. This is a great opportunity for those of you within DND to air your concerns on the topic of contracting out engineering services within DND.
