As you may know, on November 15, your TBH-RT bargaining team met with the hospital to discuss the reopeners for Bill 124 and pandemic pay. These discussions resulted in a tentative agreement that membership ratified at the Annual General Meeting on November 16. As of December 12, the hospital has also completed its ratification process.
We are pleased to share more details with you about the agreement, including on the Bill 124 settlement.
Your bargaining team was successful in securing additional pay increases, which will provide higher wages for all members on an ongoing basis, a one-time lump sum payment for members of the bargaining unit for signing the settlement, and a percentage paid in lieu of benefits for casual employees.
Rates of pay (Bill 124 adjustment, in addition to the existing 1.0% increase each year):
- Effective October 1, 2019 – Additional increase to rates of pay: 0.75%
- Effective October 1, 2020 – Additional increase to rates of pay: 0.75%
- Effective October 1, 2021 – Additional increase to rates of pay: 1.0%
As other groups in the sector have been successful in securing higher wage increases in 2022 and beyond, this agreement sets a firm foundation for the negotiation of the new collective agreement, which will be effective from October 1, 2022.
One-time lump sum payment
The hospital was unable to provide “pandemic pay” because this funding was allocated as part of a provincial program. Despite this, your bargaining team argued for financial recognition of ongoing contributions made by members of the TBH-RT Group and successfully secured a one-time lump sum payment for signing the settlement for all members of the bargaining unit as of November 15, 2023, to be disbursed by December 21, 2023, as follows:
- Full-time: $1,750
- Part-time: $1,250
- Casual: $750
Percentage in lieu for casuals
As of January 1, 2024, all casual employees will be paid 13% percent in lieu of benefit payments, with no retroactivity.
Implementation
The hospital has agreed to disburse all retroactive payments not already disbursed (i.e., the lump sum payment) to employees as a result of this settlement within 4 pay periods of ratification.
Next steps
This settlement was unanimously ratified by the TBH-RT Group! We want to congratulate the membership on this important success and thank the membership for their support as we enter bargaining in January 2024.
Keep an eye on your emails for bargaining updates in the coming weeks and months!
In solidarity,
Your PIPSC TBH-RT Bargaining Team
