The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada

Matthew Waters

I served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 2009 until 2020 as an ATIS Technician until I was offered a job to work for Shared Services Canada. During this time I’ve deployed both nationally and internationally, and I’ve seen different organizations and militaries that have displayed both pro-union and anti-union views. I’ve worked with co-workers and subordinates dealing with grave issues such as discrimination and physical/sexual harassment in the workplace. With my experience I’ve noticed one thing that is a usual issue with people seeking help; who do I turn to. Being part of the union is a new experience to me. I want to make sure that members know who they can come talk to for both help and direction.
