Katy Windl
Katy Windl is a pharmacist that has served in the public service since 2001.
From 2001 to 2016 Katy served in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as both a non-commissioned member (NCM) in the Artillery and later as a Pharmacy Officer. This experience allowed Katy to develop a great appreciation for the art of leadership and the importance of team work and collaboration.
In 2016, Katy retired from the CAF and accepted a position with First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB). This was at a time when phoenix was first being implemented and like many others Katy experienced long term pay issues that took union advocacy and support to resolve 5 years later.
In 2018, Katy took on a temporary assignment as the FNIHB ADM’s “Open Door Liaison” a place where employees could bring up concerns directly to the ADM to be addressed. This experience highlighted many of the struggles facing our front line federal nurses.
Overall, these experiences have motivated Katy in becoming a union steward and taking a stronger stance within the union. She has seen first-hand the struggles facing members and the ongoing need for continued union engagement and advocacy.
