Jordan Loverock
Good day,
I am young professional living in Vancouver where I have been volunteering for PIPSC for the past 7 years. I was recently appointed to fulfill the remainder of a term on the IT National Executive where I volunteer as Secretary and I am seeking re-election to continue to advocate on behalf of our members.
I currently chair the IT Young Professionals Committee and serve on the BC/Yukon Young Professionals Committee. As well, I am a PIPSC liaison to the BC Federation of Labour Young Worker Standing Committee. I am also a former member of the IT Services and Projects and the Human Rights and Diversity Committees of the Board.
I have attended or helped organize numerous regional and national Young Professionals events in the past, many national and group AGMs as well as several BC/Yukon Regional Councils. I am also happy to note I recently received my steward accreditation.
I would very much like to see more young professionals involved in the Institute as the majority of events I've been to have been dominated by those close to retirement or already retired who have less of a stake in the future of our labour movement.
There are also numerous areas where we could begin to step up on behalf of other young professionals such as cost of living differentials, help for those in precarious employment situations such as terms and students, and eliminating barriers for entry into the public service.
It is time for the next generation to step up and advocate for its future.
