SP 4900 Yonge Street Executive Meeting Minutes  - Thursday May 2, 2024

Time: 12:20pm to 1:20 pm

Location: SushiMoto Restaurant (4901 Yonge Street, North York)

  1. The Executive held an in-person executive meeting at SushiMoto restaurant located at 4901 Yonge Street, North York, Ontario
  1. Updates from Monthly Presidents/Vice-Presidents Meetings
  • No updates were provided as the April meeting had been cancelled due to the occurrence of the SP AGM
  • Next monthly meeting has been scheduled for May 9th @ 12pm
  1. Updates from PIPSC Meetings
  • Ontario Regional Council (ORC) Meeting – April 12 & 13, 2024
    • Jeremy attended in-person the ORC Meeting held at Blue Mountain, Collingwood, ON and provided updates from the meeting. Highlights included:
      • Phoenix backlogs continue for a number of PIPSC membership
      • Questions from the floor included:
        • Recent events regarding President Carr – response included that PIPSC is following the required processes & policies and cannot provide any further details at this time
        • Some members have raised that Duty to Accommodate (DTA) request for elder care have been denied with management citing there is no “legal requirement” for members to care for elderly parents.  PIPCS will need to look into this to determine the legalities.
      • There is a backlog of grievances due to the Employer limiting amount of time for grievances to be heard
        • Other feedback from the floor was concern about lack of EROs. This was discussed at the AGM in relation to raising dues to cover costs to hire more EROs, however, dues increase was voted down.
      • Discussion on Employers right to track and/or collect employee data with respect to log-ins, access card swipes, etc.
        • PIPSC provided comments on the new privacy legislation
      • Concerns were raised about AI and how that is covered
  1. Upcoming Sub-Group Activities/Events

Executive discussed: 

  • Upcoming PIPSC AGM to be held in Toronto in November – would be good for some Executive members to attend
  • Hosting a Lunch & Learn to go over the highlights of the new Collective Agreement and discuss what PIPSC will be doing regarding the recent Return to the Office increase to three (3) days per week
  • Lunch & Learn:  The membership has not indicated a strong concern with the new Collective Agreement but have indicated if something is organized they would likely attend.  The latest RTO directive will likely be of more interest for discussion with our SP Executive.

  • Financially the sub-group has funds in the account to provide lunch/refreshment for a lunch & learn this calendar year
