PIPSC provided relevant reports on SP Group’s demography in terms of age, gender, region, rand members, regular members, sub-groups and classifications as of March 6, 2018.

The SP Group has a total of 7867 members, including 484 rands. Our total membership has increased by 437 since April 2017. The members belong to 9 different classifications (AC, AG, BI, CH, FO, MT, PC, SG-SRE and SG-PAT). The PC group is the largest group (36%), followed by BI (32%), SG_SRE (13%), CH (7%), MT (7%) and SG-PAT (5%).

There are 29 subgroups across the country. Six-hundred fifty-three 653 (8%) members don’t belong to any subgroup and of these 119 are RANDs.  Regionally, NCR has the largest proportion (46%) of the SP members.     

Health Canada has the largest number of SP members (32%), followed by ECCC (27%), DFO (14%), NRCan (6%) and Innovation, Science and Economic Development (5%). The remaining members are with other departments and agencies.  

The SP group has more female (52%) members than male (48%) and the data for specific age groups are:

Action Plan

The Group has been very successful in engaging our members. Let’s continue to work together to strengthen our union by focussing on:

  1. Reducing the number of rands by effective communication with them with the help of sub groups, stewards and active members.
  2. Encouraging the younger members to become involve in union activities.
