In the spring of 2024, PIPSC notified their members that the employer was applying for an extension to complete the pay equity process. PIPSC had the opportunity to respond to the Pay Equity Commission on whether they supported the application or not. In our submission to the commission, we included that we understood that the process must take place to close any wage gaps for female dominated jobs.
The extension request was approved by the Pay Equity Commission for an additional eighteen months. This extension doesn’t negate the employer’s responsibility for payments and interest to employees in positions that are determined to be female dominated jobs with a wage gap. Currently, we are preparing the draft Job Information Questionnaire (JIQ), to be sent out as a pilot project to test the JIQ and the Job Evaluation Tool. This pilot project is anticipated to commence in early 2025. Following the pilot project, many PIPSC members will be expected to fill out this JIQ. Please note that completed JIQs will only be used for the purpose of pay equity. They will not be used for performance appraisal purposes nor classification.
