Eric Hortop - RE Group
I am a thirteen-year veteran MA and have been involved in my subgroup, as a member at large, then secretary, then president, for much of that time. In 2012, I became a steward and jumped right in to supporting members through the WFA at Statistics Canada. I was been a member of the Statistics Canada Branch executive for nearly four years and through that engagement, participated in inter-union mobilization efforts at Tunney’s Pasture as well as serving as treasurer there for a time. I have served two terms on the RE Group executive, one of them as treasurer, and was instrumental in redesigning the logo, and coordinating the inaugural RE Group Commendation. I was on the 2018 bargaining team for the RE collective agreement and the vice-president of the Statistics Canada PIPSC National Consultation Team, having served on the Policy Committee on Occupational Safety and Health, Labour-Management Consultation Committee, Labour-Management Operations Consultation Committee, Human Resources Labour Management Consultation Committee and consultations on creating a Statistics Canada Scientific Integrity Policy compatible with our new collective agreement. I am also active in Positive Space at Statistics Canada and unafraid to don my union hat when required on committees or in day-to-day work.
My particular interests lie in ensuring members have the flexibility to take care of themselves, their families and their communities, and the security of knowing that their gains are protected in a fair, comprehensive, inclusive and steadily-improving collective agreement. I am bilingual, an active member and steward, have active listening and teaching skills, attention to detail, a history of constructive engagement with management and progressive politics. I look forward to continuing to serve members and advance equity and inclusion on the Group Executive if re-elected!
