  •  Richard Gaboton invited members to facilitate land acknowledgement training. This is a 4-week commitment, with 2-3 hours per week of work required.

HRDC action plan
 

  1. Present and agree upon goals as per conversations at May 21 meeting.
     
  • Goals have been reviewed by members and friends of the Committee (mentioned below in this document).

  • PIPSC is providing funding to all regions for Pride to organize festivities.

  • The committee decided by consensus that we should try and get a table at the next AGM. We should work on a postcard.
     
  • November 17: HRDC meeting to be held in Montreal, in a hybrid fashion.

  • Ways to promote the issues the equity caucuses bring up.
     
  • The idea of holding open meetings for the caucuses was floated.

Presentations

  1. Richard Gaboton, PIPSC Education Officer, will introduce committee members to the Turtle Island course.
     
  2. Sadichchha Pokharel, PIPSC Research Officer, will introduce committee members to PIPSC’s Women in Science project.
 
  • WiS include: Learning Labs, Workshop, Speaker series, publications and Member-Ied EDI microprojects.
     
  • Microprojects include: Modernizing parental leave policies, gender inclusive bathrooms, gender equity in science discussion groups, gender bias in research funding, GBA and hiring process.

HRDC ACTION PLAN

 

Goals:

  1. Establish caucuses
  2. Hold at least one meeting with each of the six equity caucuses with at least 3 volunteers
  3. Support the equity caucuses in identifying issues of important for public service professionals within their equity-seeking group
  4. Identify ways to present human rights and diversity issues, as identified by HRDC and the caucuses, to the broader PIPSC membership and Board of directors
  5. Support the implementation of the truth and reconciliation commission’s recommendation #57 targeting skill-based training for public service employees.

Action Item from this meeting:

 

  1. Malcolm to draft an email invitation.
  2. Malcolm to set up caucus inboxes: indigenouscaucus@pipsc.ca
  3. Malcolm to collect names of interested committee members and send an email to share the information about the land acknowledgement training, and add the link to the folder.
  4. Manny to explore opportunities for additional funding.
  5. Malcolm to find out if HRDC members can be observers at the AGM. However, observers participate at their own cost. 
  6. Marielle/Malcolm to create a Doodle for next meeting: Option are September 9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 19 
  7. Malcolm to add Sadi’s presentation to the Shared Drive.
  8. Malcolm to inquire if HRDC can hold one of their in-person meetings in Toronto instead of Ottawa.
  9. Greg to follow up with Manny about caucus member selection.
  10. Tanya, Malcolm and Greg to draft a postcard to include with distribution of the lapel pins..
  11. Greg to send information to his supplier for lapel pins.
  12. Malcolm to share pride season action plan with HRDC members.
