The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), a national union representing over 70,000 professionals and scientists across Canada, is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our team at our National Office in Ottawa.

What can I expect to do in this role?
Under the direction of the Director, Public Affairs & Corporate Communications, and the supervision of the Team Lead Public Affairs, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visual assets that support the union’s advocacy, campaigns, and member engagement efforts. The Graphic Designer develops the overall layout and production of design ensuring they align with the union’s mission, communication strategies and plans.
Primary responsibilities:
- Create and maintain brand consistency across the Institute's campaigns and products using the Visual Identity Guide.
- Create engaging design concepts and images, including, but not limited to social media graphics, infographics, posters, newsletters, email templates, website pages, reports, and event materials to support the Institute’s communication strategies.
- Ensure all visuals assets align with the union’s branding and messaging guidelines, maintaining a cohesive look across platforms.
- Work with other departments, including communications, public affairs, and research teams, to ensure designs are timely, relevant, and support broader union objectives.
- Adapt visual content to suit various audiences (e.g., members, allies, government officials) and convey messages effectively across platforms and mediums.
- Participate in the production of the Institute’s products and campaigns including, but not limited to, researching costs, liaising with suppliers, developing and meeting/enforcing production schedules, completing purchase orders, and reviewing printers’ proofs.
- Work with constituent body executives to ensure consistent branding and access to design files.
- Present designs to stakeholders, incorporate changes recommended by the stakeholders into the final design and review designs for errors before printing or publishing them.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of campaigns including formatting and proofreading, creating mock-ups, designing the lay-out of various assets, and evaluating campaigns.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects and work collaboratively with staff and other stakeholders.
- May be requested to perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Education / Experience:
- Completion of a relevant three-year community college program; and
- Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in print and digital graphic design; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language requirement:
- Fluency in both French and English is preferred
Skills and experience required:
- Advanced knowledge of graphic design and related software
- Good knowledge of digital communications as it relates to graphic design
- Good knowledge of the Institute’s organization, structure and administrative practices
- Ability to establish priorities between competing projects and manage workload to adhere to deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, campaign-driven environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal contacts
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $85,647 to $107,060 (G5)

- Vacation: 4 weeks per year, plus other generous paid leave
- Paid Time Off: December 27th to 31st
Note
Preference will be given in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the IAM Local 3011 bargaining unit.
