2021 CP Election_Emily S. Beckerman

Dear Members,

After much contemplation and encouragement from my PIPSC colleagues, that I should continue to positively contribute to the membership through my role on the Group executive, I seek your vote as a Member-at-Large.

GOALS

  • Restore the confidence of our members in the Group by ensuring accountability and transparency in budget allocations, spending and preparation of PIPSC compliant financial statements.
  • Closely review expenditures during the collective bargaining period, in an effort to prevent budget overruns.
  • Forward to the PIPSC representative at the National Joint Council, member requests for improvements in non-pay related compensation such as extended health and dental benefits.
  • To create pay parity between classification levels that have consistently received increases over two consecutive collective bargaining cycles with those whose increases have been erratic.
  • To use experiences acquired as the Ontario Regional Representative and through Labour Management Consultation, to help increase participation of members not associated with Subgroups.
  • The pandemic has forced the adoption of virtual tools and has opened additional avenues for member participation. To increase member participation through virtual meetings of the Advisory Committee for members at remote work locations.
  • To support victims of workplace violence by ensuring that not only the workplace, but also the CP executive’s actions and communications, are free from bullying and harassment.

EXPERIENCES

  • Ontario Regional Representative 2018 to present.
  • PIPSC representative on the OSB Labour Management Consultation Committee.
  • A member of the Law Society of Ontario, having completed my JD and MBA in Toronto.
  • Prior to the federal public service, I was in private practice as a lawyer.
  • I am a Senior Analyst at ISED and been a member of PIPSC since 2004.
  • As a steward, I represented members in complex grievances involving harassment and violence in the workplace.
