The RE Group Executive is pleased to announce the winner of this year’s RE Group Commendation. Congratulations to Dr. Frédéric Marsolais!
Dr. Frédéric Marsolais is a scientific researcher from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) who has gone above and beyond to solve issues for members and help them navigate tricky situations with management.
In addition to his important and diplomatic one-on-one work with members, he also clarified the rules around adjunct professorships, protecting and promoting a key element of the AAFC Scientific Integrity Policy. This work benefits the roughly 500 RE members who work there.
Dr. Marsolais’ work reflects the purpose and values behind the RE Group Commendation Award: to promote better working conditions for government researchers and champion scientific and research integrity.
Working conditions for government researchers:
Since becoming a steward in 2019, Dr. Marsolais has:
- helped local members understand and interpret their collective agreement
- played a key role throughout the pandemic in the union-management committee consulting on safely returning researchers and scientists to their labs
- assisted members in navigating challenging conversations with management
- helped members obtain necessary resources to execute their research program
Scientific and research integrity:
Dr. Marsolais worked tremendously hard on clarifying the rules about Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) funding for PIPSC members who hold adjunct professorships, supporting the implementation of item 7.6.2 of the AAFC Scientific Integrity Policy.
We encourage all members to keep an eye out for the next call for nominations and to start thinking about deserving nominees.
