Amendment to Quebec Region By-Laws

1. Chair of the Quebec Region Youth Committee to sit on the Regional Executive

(Sponsor: Youth Committee, Quebec Region)

Whereas the knowledge and experience of our union leaders are an invaluable asset to the organization;

Whereas young professionals develop a sense of belonging to the union when the union properly represents their interests;

Whereas, to ensure the sustainability of the Institute, it is critical to train tomorrow’s leaders by passing on to them the organization’s knowledge and values;

Whereas the best place to learn from the experience of our leaders is to sit on the Regional Executive;

Whereas adding a young professional on the Regional Executive would bring new insight, new ways of thinking and new approaches that could benefit the organization; and

Whereas the Youth Committee’s structure was formalized by the Board of Directors given that it aligns with the Board’s strategic goals and will thus provide a solid foundation for succession planning for PIPSC leadership;

Be it resolved that the Quebec Regional Council approve the amendment to By-Law 5.4 to include paragraph 5.4.1 as follows:

5.4 The Executive shall meet four (4) times a year or hold the maximum number of meetings according to the Policies, By-Laws and Regulations of the Institute. The President shall however call an Executive meeting at the written request of at least four (4) members of the Executive.

5.4.1 Should the Executive not include a member of the Youth Committee, the chair of the Committee, or his representative, shall sit in the meetings as an observer.
