NAME:  Prairie/NWT Young Professional Committee (PNYPC)

MANDATE:  Provide advice to the Regional Executive on matters related to young professionals; increase confidence, skills, and knowledge regarding the union among young professionals; and mobilize young professionals to play a role in building the union for the future.

 

MEMBERSHIP:   Approved by the Prairie/NWT Regional Director.  Open to members of PIPSC Prairie/NWT. Maximum of six members under 40, five members from each large branch (Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Regina) plus one representative from one of our small branches (Denwood, Lacombe-Red Deer, Lethbridge, Northeastern Alberta, Northern Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Prince Albert, or Suffield) and the Prairie/ NWT Regional Director.

 

For this call for expression of interest we will be selecting members for our four large branches which include (Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Regina)

 

TERMS:  three two year terms and one one year term, commencing in January 2025.

 

OBJECTIVES: 

  • Identifying barriers for young professionals in the Public Service and PIPSC
  • Advocating on behalf on young professionals
  • Raising issues specific to young professionals
  • Fostering relationships with like minded community groups
  • Reaching out to young professionals in the workplace
  • Educating young professionals on the union’s role and its benefits
  • Acting as a liaison with Prairie/NWT Regional Executive

 

COMMITTEE MEMBER EXPECTATIONS: 

  • Make a commitment to be available for meetings and events
  • Organize events within their branch
  • Work closely as team as well as independently to ensure committee objectives are met
  • Engage young professionals on issues and collect feedback.

 

SCREENING CRITERIA:  The following criteria may be used to assess the expressions of interest to select inaugural members of the Prairie/NWT Young Professional Committee.
