1. Call to Order

  • Meeting called to order at 5:51 PM

2. Approval of the agenda

3. Business arising from the Minutes

  • Motion to approve minutes from April 13 meeting. M/S/C

4. President’s Report

  • CLC 2026 Debrief
  • 2026 Pickleball Event Debrief
    • Good turnout for the event, lots of positive feedback and support for more sports mixer type events. Good representation across SGs.
    • Not all SG funding was used, potential for another pickleball event
  • SG Boundaries (Squamish to Chilliwack)
    • Bryan working w/ SP Regional Executive to assess SG boundaries. After boundaries are clarified, membership list will be updated.
    • ACTION: Tim to check if any further administrative work needed given recent name change (e.g. bylaws)
  • Legacy Foundation Scholarships
    • Exec members encouraged to raise awareness about scholarships to members. Sign-up is available until June.
  • Updated PIPSC Website (membership #, stewards, etc.)
    • Website helps members locate and message stewards, find their PIPSC membership number.
  • Acceptance of verbal report. M/S/C

6. Treasurer’s Report 

  • Tim provided an update on the financial status of the SG
  • ACTION: Bryan to reach out to Branch for opportunities to share funds for upcoming events.

7. National and Regional Updates 

  • It Takes Experts Campaign
    • 401 Burrard planning march on May 27th
    • Members encouraged to discuss work with their local MP
  • BC-Yukon Regional Council coming up (June 5 – 6)
    • Can reach out to your branch executives if interested in attending. Recommend reaching out early given the waitlist.
  • BC-Yukon Steward Council coming up (Oct 23 – 25)
    • Event occurring in Downtown Vancouver (Coal Harbour)
  • SP National Meeting coming up in June, with focus on prepping for collective agreement negotiation
    • Can raise any comments to Tanya

8. Vancouver SP Sub Group 2026 Plans and Activities

  • Virtual Games Night on May 20 (ongoing collab with BC/Y Region & Surrey White Rock Branch)
    • No cost to SG, all members encouraged to attend
  • Bird Banding
    • ACTION: Helen to look into possibility of obtaining BT funding
    • Event planning currently on hold, mostly likely to occur in Fall
  • Follow-up Pickleball event
    • Potential for another pickleball event with other SGs
    • No additional funds expected from SG (use remaining funds that were allocated for the previous event)
    • ACTION: Bryan to provide an update at next executive meeting
  • Dine Outs (collab with YPC)
    • Dates TBD – likely mid-August/early-September
    • YPC has approved funding for the event, still waiting on BT funding
    • Important considerations raised regarding planning (parking costs, size of venue, day of event, lunch vs. dinner, cost, cuisine, etc.)
    • Potential to link a dine out event with Steps for Science (post or pre meal walk)
    • ACTION: Bryan and Helen to touch base on planning and coordinate with 401 Burrard and YPC
  • Labour Day Booth @ Edmonds Park
    •  Exec members discussed ways to potential increase attendance from members, including having boxed meals or pool passes
    • ACTION: Tim to talk to the Branch about potential coordination on funding, including pool pass idea.
  • Beach Clean-up (Collab w/ 401 Burrard)
    • Date TBD (likely summer), waiting to hear back from 401 Burrard
  • L&Ls at Lower Mainland SP offices
    • See presentations available to educate members in Table of Presentations at the end of these minutes
  • Movie Morning
    • Bryan coordinating with IT Group and others to coordinate funding for a movie morning event later this year. BT funding is pending.
    • Sub Group supports moving $250 currently allocated for mobilization for allocation to Better Together events (with the intention of being used to fund a movie morning event with other groups). M/S/C
  • Pride
    • No updates, no expected costs for the SG
  • Plan to hold off on funding observer spots for future in-person exec meetings
  • PS Appreciation Week (week of June 14)
    • Sub Group previously approved $350 in funding to distribute treats for members in various building ($100 for 800 Burrard, $100 for Surrey RCMP, $100 for Burnaby HC office, $50 for Melville Office)
    • Sub Group supports an additional $50 to distribute treats at the 605 Robson Street Office. M/S/C
    • ACTION: Bryan to submit BT funding request for treats.
    • Exec members distributing treats reminded to include messaging with treats and submit receipts to Tim.
  • Other Potential Ideas (deferred):
    • Mini Golf (EagleQuest)
    • Bowling
    • Activate
    • Tree-top adventure (Helen to investigate)

9. AGM Planning

  • Various considerations discussed (venue, cost of parking, online vs. in-person, giveaways, date, guest speaker, etc.)
  • Date tentatively set for September 17 (Sept 23 as back-up), preference for hybrid meeting and movie ticket giveaway, Personas Restaurant as venue
  • ACTION: Philip to contact Personas about booking, initiate initial AGM planning.

10. Other Business 

  • Visibility Items: Trader Joe’s Tote Bags collaboration w/ Surrey White Rock
    • Bryan noted that socks are no longer be pursued, tote bags are coming

11. Location and preferred dates of next meeting

  • Next meeting tentatively set for June 24th @ 5:30 PM
  • Location tentatively set for Downtown Vancouver (Venue TBD)
  • ACTION: Philip to book venue for next meeting
