Action Item: K Kerr to ask PIPSC translate/post draft March 8 2017 minutes;
4) Business Arising from the minutes –
Action Item: (to do) S. Cowell to follow up on whether draft Nov 24 2016 Exec meeting minutes (drafted by former Secretary, Stephen Hureau) were translated and posted on PIPSC Web site;
Action Item: (done) K Kerr to follow up on request for PIPSC to translate and post the DRAFT Jan 25 2017 SP Sub Group AGM minutes on PIPSC web site;
Action Item: (to do) S. Cowell to continue to follow up with Dan Jones for status of review by PIPSC By Law’s Committee, of the changes that were approved by our members at our Jan 2015 SP SG AGM to SP SG By laws;
Action Item: (done) T. Powers confirmed allotment for our SP Sub Group was received;
Action Item: (done) S Cowell advised that PIPSC has updated it website to reflect changes made to our Executive, as a result of a new Sub Group being formed at 401 Burrard St, in mid-April ;
Action Item: (done): S Cowell confirmed that he asked Enzo Barresi, SP Group, to please schedule conference calls providing updates on SP activities to be on a regular date each month; or, alternatively, circulate a schedule of calls for the year;
Action Item: (to do) S Cowell to follow up further with Vancouver Branch, on whether it is interested in co-sponsoring an event (such as movie night) with our SP Sub group;
Action Item: (carry over); G Bramwell no longer on SP Sub Group Executive – so no report provided at tonight’s meeting on pricing of: cruise & fireworks;
5) Treasurer’s Report
Powers provided Treasurer’s report; m/s Cowell/Li ; Carried
6) Election of Vacant Executive Positions:
Denis Semail agreed to take over (from Giselle Bramwell), as Vice- President of our Sub group Executive;
7) National and Regional Updates
- S. Cowell advised that new SP Collective Agreement signed on May 15 2017; to be implemented within 90 days; PIPSC SP web site provides useful updates on status of implementation; To facilitate implementation, he suggested that the PIPSC representatives may wish to ask if management has been briefed on changes in new SP Collective Agreements;
- S Cowell advised that both himself and Dong-Mei Li (she belongs to new sub group at 401Burrard), were delegates to the year’s SP Group AGM; He gave a brief report on the SP AGM and on the BC/Yukon Regional Council; He noted that there were three new members elected to the BC/Yukon Regional Executive this year;
- S. Cowell identified upcoming PIPSC training: Lunch & Learn on Bargaining (Sept 20 Library Square); Steward Council (Oct 20/21- Richmond); Basic Steward Training (Nov 23-25 -Vancouver);
- S Cowell reported: Science Advisory Committee Meeting (June 23 – NCR) ; Pride Parade (Aug 6 – Vancouver); Labour Day (Sept 4 – Burnaby); PIPSC AGM (Nov 17/18 – NCR) ; Branch AGM (Dec 6th – Vancouver) ;
8) Vancouver Sub Group Activities for 2017
a. S. Cowell to ask Vancouver Branch (K Hall) if there is interest in SP Sub Group partnering with Vancouver Branch in events, such as Movie night;
b. Cowell encourages workplace events – coffee & donuts; ice cream truck ;
MOTION: To allot up to $ 200 for K Kerr to arrange for a work place event at a local coffee shop, to provide coffee/snacks for the SP members located at 600 Melville St; and submit receipts to Treasurer; m/s Cowell/Powers; Carried
c. Cowell advised that the 401 Burrard Sub Group formed in mid April 2017;

2017 Events:
* AGM Jan 25th White Spot (Good location, modern private space with good AV, reasonable prices, easy to work with, unionised staff). Approx 45 participants.
* Coffee mornings, (Burnaby)
* Lunch and learns on new CA (Burnaby, HC, 401 Burrard – EC and DFO)
* Partner or go alone on a summer/fall event?
* SP AGM: Discussion around bargaining winners and losers. Some mention of science integrity but plan is still with PIPSC centre and Science Advisory Committee.
* BC/Yukon regional council: Three new exec members replacing three outgoing who didn’t run again.
Our members concerns:
*Phoenix – finally getting fixed?
*Implementation of new agreement (esp. retro pay, raises)
*Representation on bargaining committee (composition criteria – based on classification)
*Scientific integrity – what does it mean in practice, what happens next?
