Regional Director Report – (M. Cranny) M/S/C

The Board of Directors are here in Victoria for the Regional Council and are meeting this week. Morgan has taken them on 3 site visits to CFB Esquimalt for the Victoria Branch BBQ, the Institute of Ocean Sciences,  and the Pacific Forestry Centre. The BoD had lunch with the YPC and will be attending the YPC and IT engagement events.

In late May, the BoD had their strategic planning meeting. They hired a consultant for guidance and made a sub-committee, which included the COO Stan Maclellan. The Bod came up with a 1-year bridge strategic plan and will do a 3-year plan next year, which will include priorities like TREDIA (Truth and Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility). These priorities are pillars of the organization. 

Also in late May, the Vancouver-SP 401 Burrard subgroup held a lunchtime rally and had good interaction with the public. They did some speeches, which will be shared with PIPSC HQ. The rally was led by affected members and WFA and RTO were discussed.

Morgan attended part of the May Executive training led by BC-Yukon Peer Facilitators Priyanka and Cynthia. Members were engaged and the training received positive feedback.

Morgan, Nikhil, Alicia, and Terri went to the CLC Convention in Winnipeg in early May. They met lots of union members, and Morgan felt that the convention helped PIPSC to understand the importance of being a CLC member and the resources that are available to PIPSC in terms of training, strike action, and mobilization.

Also in early May, the Vancouver-CRA branch had 170 members at their AGM. Simon Chiu and Morgan spoke to the delegation. Morgan also stopped in at the Spring Labour School and received feedback that the training was effective. Morgan also attended a Legacy foundation meeting and a special BoD meeting.

Coming up, Morgan will be going to Qudra Island for Activate, a union activist training.

Office/Staff Report – (K. Hawkins) M/S/C

We currently have 344 cases, with a median caseload of 69. For context, we had 227 last month. This is quite high but we are still stable and looking to resolve some existing historical cases. I will have some periods of time away over the coming months, and my position will be rotationally covered by the western Team Leads. All are well aware of the needs and with the Steward Council planned, I have no concerns.

The YPC has continued building momentum with strong engagement across recent events. The Surrey White Rock dine out, held on April 21, was a resounding success. Interest was so high that we expanded the original capacity limit to accommodate additional attendees. The Lower Mainland pickleball event on May 2 was equally impressive, drawing 85 attendants with overwhelmingly positive feedback.

These results reflect a growing appetite for large-scale, cross-subgroup and cross-branch activities, and we are actively looking to build on this energy with more events of this nature.

Looking ahead, we are moving into the planning phase for two collaborative dine outs: one in partnership with the Vancouver Branch, and another jointly with the SP Vancouver Subgroup. These initiatives continue to strengthen cross-regional engagement and expand opportunities for member connection.

We also have confirmed in-person meetings during the Regional Council, which will include two half-day sessions, along with a YPC engagement event on the evening of one of the meeting days to further encourage participation and networking among members.
