7. Guest speakers:
a. Sean O’Reilly, PIPSC President.
i. Sean spoke of number of issues facing the organization. There are work
force cuts in many of the organizations in order to cut costs. This should
happen gradually and mainly by natural attrition. There are some sectors
that will have problems with this, the work load will stay the same while
stuff count diminishes. The quality of the services to the citizens will
deteriorate. This requires actions from PIPSC. The politicians who make
those decisions need to be informed of consequences before making the
cuts. He asks that any future cuts be documented and reported to PIPSC.
The next national AGM in 2026 will have significantly lower number of
delegates, currently about 900 will go down to 500. This is to save money.
b. Morgan Cranny, Regional Director, BC/Yukon region.
i. Morgan informed present members and executives of new COO starting in
October. Also encouraged members of becoming stewards, since a number
of current stewards will retire soon. He mentioned the push for 5 days
back to office from the managements, which might not be feasible in all
positions/locations.
c. Eric Hortop, RE Group President
i. Eric spoke about scientific integrity and how to protect it. The barraging
team in his group is being assembled for the new contract negotiations.
8. Motion to adjourn at 8:30 pm: M/S/Carried.
