Pride during Capital Pride: The NCR will screen Matthew Warchus’ Pride (2014)
Join us for a screening of the film Pride (2014), a film about the 2SLGBTQIA+ alliance that supported the National Union of Mineworkers, during the year-long UK miners’ strike of 1984–1985.
Pride, directed by Matthew Warchus, is based on the true story of an alliance of lesbian and gay activists who travel to the small Welsh mining village of Onllwyn, in a show of intercommunity solidarity.
Pride was named the Best British Independent Film of 2014 and The New York Times called the film a “hearty, blunt-force drama with softened edges that leaves audiences applauding and teary-eyed.”
Come celebrate Capital Pride with your union family at Ottawa’s historic Mayfair Theatre, one of the oldest surviving independent movie houses in all of Canada. Whether you’re a long-time activist or newly involved in the union, this is a great opportunity to connect with fellow members, deepen your understanding of labour history, and celebrate the collective power of working people.
