Welcome:
The meeting was held at Lee Garden Seafood Restaurant, 6401 Kingsway, Burnaby. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Mauro Defeudis, President Vancouver CRA Branch.
Approval of Agenda:
Mauro Defeudis stated that the AGM Agenda was provided on each table. Motion to approve the agenda. Moved by Greg Day. Seconded by Tom Kirkpatrick. Carried.
Adoption of the Minutes from the 2024 AGM:
Mauro Defeudis stated that the minutes from the 2024 AGM were provided on each table. Mauro Defeudis asked that we approve the 2024 minutes. Moved by Greg Day. Seconded by Alketa Katro. Carried.
President’s Report – Mauro Defeudis:
Regional Council will be on June 13-14, 2025 at Tigh-Na-Ma-Ra Resort, Parksville. Encouraged members to become more involved and always a need for new stewards during a time of cutbacks. Elections will be held at next year’s AGM.
Annual Financial Report, by Treasurer Gurpreet Khera:
The financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2024 were tabled. These financial statements and budget were provided on each table. Main source of funding is from the annual PIPSC allocation. Most of the Branch spending is to fund the AGM dinner and Winter Social. Gurpreet Khera asked for someone to move to adopt the financial statements. Moved by Mauro Defeudis. Seconded by Danielle Puttonen. Carried.
The 2025 budget was also presented by Gurpreet Khera who explained that funds are allocated for the AGM. Gurpreet Khera asked for someone to move to adopt the 2025 budget. Moved by Mauro Defeudis. Seconded by Greg Day. Carried.
Speakers:
Morgan Cranny
Spoke about the new Board of Directors and the new President, Sean O’Reilly. Encouraged members to become more involved with the union. Funding is available for union events such as Lunch ‘n Learn.
Doug Mason
Spoke about the cutbacks on the public service. Refocus on government spending pertains to a spending restraint exercise aimed at reducing the pace and scale of growth in government spending back to a pre-pandemic path. Spoke about Workforce Adjustment (WFA) and how it affects indeterminate employees.
Simon Chiu
Spoke about management putting employees on Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and how this could result in layoffs during times of cutbacks. Advised to consult a local steward or the PIPSC office if put on a PIP.
