Steve Waterhouse

During his military career with the Royal 22e Régiment (Canada), Capt(ret) Waterhouse traded his rifle for a keyboard to become a cybersoldier. After training infantrymen and officers in combat arms and leadership, this change of venue towards technology was another interesting challenge. From the role of LAN manager at Land Force Quebec Area HeadQuarters (Montreal, QC, CA), he was posted as the Metropolitan Area Network manager of Canadian Forces Base Montreal right after the 1998 Ice Storm crisis and lead a multidisciplinary team for the integration and conformity evaluation of all of the base’s system in regards of the Y2K situation. While in this mandate, Capt(ret) Waterhouse was made the first Information System Security Officer of CFB Montreal.

With Y2K away and the civilization still standing, an opportunity was offered to him in rebuilding the IT systems of the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean as Information System Security Officer (ISSO) and network infrastructure manager as a civil servant for the Government of Canada. At the same time, Capt(ret) Waterhouse, continues to serve with the Canadian Forces as a reservist with the newly formes CIvilian and MIlitary Cooperation (CIMIC) cell until 2004 and later with the Royal Canadian Army Cadets as an instructor cadre until 2012. In 2009, migrated to the private sector with the telecommunication company Allstream taking on various consulting mandates in IT Security, Wireless networks and videoconferencing. Missing all the action of teaching, he goes independent in training and consulting and forms his company INFOSECSW.

Aside the multiple military training he has given, Capt(ret) Waterhouse thought the University of Winnipeg’s Information Assurance Security Certificate (IASC) from 2002 to 2007, training several of Canada’s Department of National Defence’s ISSO. He remains an active trainer as a certified instructor with products / companies like Websense, Cisco Systems, CompTIA and CWNP. M. Waterhouse is often called in the medias (TVA, LCN, Cogeco Medias, Radio X, Radio-Canada, CBC, SirriusXM and CTV) when there’s a need in bringing common sense with cybersecurity news stories as a subject matter expert.

M. Waterhouse holds several professional certifications like CISSP, CCSI, CWNT. He is a member of the ISACA (Montreal), of ISC2, the AQIII and the Canadian Association of Public Speakers (CAPS) and is a PADI MasterDiver.
