AV Ottawa Sub-Group Report

Sub-Group Highlights

The AV Ottawa Sub-Group held several events to engage and mobilize its members.  Summaries of these events are provided below.  The sub-group partnered with branches for several of the events.  Recruiting stewards and getting members to organize lunch & learns in their workplaces both remain priorities and were done throughout the year.

Activities done during the year

  • Lunch & Learns in Workplaces – Sylvia Boucher, Rob Hunter and Germain Leblanc organized lunch & learns at NRCan, GAC, and CBSA respectively.  All three sessions were well attended.
  • BBQ Mobilization Event – The AV Ottawa Sub-Group partnered with the Ottawa Centreville Branch again to organize a BBQ for 300 members.  This has become an annual event.
  • Steward Appreciation Event – This annual event, which is open to stewards in Ottawa and Gatineau, provided an opportunity for AV stewards to network and discuss issues.
  • Retro Pay and Bill C-27 Lunch & Learn – A capacity crowd of 100 members attended this event to learn how to calculate their retro pay and better understand Bill C-27.
  • AV Ottawa Sub-Group AGM The 2017 AGM was held in early May and the 2018 AGM is scheduled for May 2018.
