In May of this year I, like many of us, was deeply saddened by the discovery of the mass grave site in Kamloops, British Columbia at a former residential school. The Canadian residential school system, created by Christian churches and the Canadian government, is a sordid mark on our shared history.

As the union representing the scientists who approved the COVID vaccines, PIPSC welcomes all efforts to increase vaccination coverage in Canada. That includes a vaccine policy that makes vaccines more accessible to our members and accommodates legitimate reasons for which an employee may not be vaccinated.

Samah Henein came to Canada 30 years ago from Egypt with a BA in Commerce to have a better life. She wanted the job security that the public service offered, but also wanted to work somewhere she could learn, grow and have balance in her life. Samah applied as an auditor with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in 2005.
