We are pleased to inform you that PIPSC has resumed work on the grievances submitted by members in the spring of 2016. From November 2018 through July 2019 PIPSC Classification Specialists will be building the cases for the job content grievances in Science and Operations Branches and presenting them to the CFIA.

The CFIA S&A Group Executive invited CFIA S&A members to attend a Special General Meeting on August 30, 2018 in Montreal, Quebec, to present the proposed amended version of the CFIA S&A Group Constitution and By-laws to the membership to vote for the proposed amendments.

In April, your bargaining representatives met informally with the Employer in an effort to move negotiations forward. The last remaining points of contention are the SR pay rates, we have clearly communicated our expectations on these rates of pay numerous times, and we continue to do so.

In 2015, the CFIA initiated a process to review its classification system and invited PIPSC to participate.

Our last update was January 22, 2018 and we had stated that we will keep you informed of further developments. Unfortunately, there have been no developments for the last 3 months, until today.

Your CFIA S&A Group Executive, representing over 1200 members across Canada, held its first meeting of the year on Saturday January 20th, 2018 in Ottawa. During this meeting, we have, among other things, held elections to fill the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chief Steward.

Due to logistical issues, we will not be returning to the bargaining table January 9-10, 2018. We are now scheduled to return to the bargaining table, on yet confirmed days, in February 2018.

We have verified the results for the elections to Regional Representative positions on the CFIA S&A Group Executive. The following candidates were successful (names underlined) and have taken office as of December 15, 2017.

Your Bargaining Team met with the Employer between February 7 and 9. The negotiation session was disappointing to say the least. After more than 25 days of negotiation over a 15 month period your Bargaining Team is frustrated with the employer's position and slow pace of negotiations.
