CFIA S&A - Katie Oppen
Katie Oppen
Risk Intelligence Analyst, Operations Branch
I firmly believe that unions and collective action are critical to protecting workers’ rights as well as human rights.
If elected I commit to:
- clear, frequent, informative and relevant communications and meetings between the members and the Executive
- finalizing the current bargaining round and starting the next round quickly to make progress on outstanding issues that impact all members
- basic union orientation for all members on their rights under the collective agreement and legislation
- recruiting new, engaged and active Stewards to be key linkages between members, the S&A Executive and PIPSC
- a national training and strategy conference for all Stewards and members involved in Consultation, Occupational Safety and Health, and Equity and Diversity Committees
I have been an active PIPSC member for many years in several roles:
- Steward - current
- CFIA Scientific and Analytic Group Executive, Member at Large - past two terms
- S&A Group, Bargaining Chief, 2015 - 2016
- S&A Group, Co-Chair, NCR Union Management Consultation Committee and Nationally Distributed Staff UMCC
- Ottawa West Branch, Vice President - current, Member at Large - two terms
- PIPSC representative to Canadian Labour Congress Women’s Advisory Committee, 2017 - 2018
