Hello,

Almost five years ago, with the help of my friend Gerlando Renna, I recruited a team of cyclists to wear the colors of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC-IPFPC). Our goal was, and still is, to increase the visibility of the Institute while promoting healthier lifestyle habits (with exercise) by participating in charity cycling events. Since I’m really thinking BIG, I am trying to have this team officially recognized nationally (from coast to coast) in order to have support of the Institute's resources.

For a fourth year in a row, I have committed myself to participating in the 2018 Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Segal cancer center of the Montreal Jewish General Hospital. This year is the 10th anniversary of the event and it will be my last participation to the ride. However, I would like to finish off my collaboration with style. Currently, we still have seven (7) open spots (prepaid registrations) to fill with cyclists interested in participating.

This challenge is colossal on 2 levels. First, the distance is 230 km. So you have to train before riding the distance. The other challenge is to raise donations for an amount equal to, or greater than, the $2500 required for participating in the ride between Repentigny and Quebec on July 7 and 8, 2018. This ride is a fantastic experience. It’s not the destination that matters, but the path to get there that symbolizes the challenges that people living with cancer have to overcome.

What can you do to help? I am looking for 7 cyclists, it can be you or your friends, who want to be actively involved in supporting cancer research by taking part in this event. If you can’t ride, you can contribute by donating to members of the team on their personal donation page.

Furthermore, registration for la Boucle du Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, which will be held on Saturday, June 16 from Lévis (near Québec), is now open. (https://www.legdpl.com/la-boucle). If you’re interested, contact me. I can add your name to our team. If you have already done so on la Boucle website, contact me by email. Note: You must pay the registration fee of $300. Last year, we were 10 and enjoyment was always on the menu.

Our team jerseys can now be pre-ordered online by following the link: https://ppr.louisgarneau.com/ipfpc2018. Priority will be given to people who have already committed themselves to participating in a cycling event, one of the two above, or any other relevant cycling event.

I sincerely thank you for your support and I’m looking forward to riding with you,

Pierre Morin

Captain of the PIPSC Cycling Team.
