AV - Gatineau Subgroup Report

Report Period - June 2017 to May 2018

AV Gatineau Subgroup, comprised of 2,063 AU-CO-PG members, had a great year of:

1. Mobilizing members  with Collective Bargaining lunch and learns
2. Steward and Executive Recruitment and Development Networking Sessions
3. Participating in Steward and Regional Councils

Mobilization:

It has been noted by the Institute that the Gatineau Subgroup is one of the most active Constituent Bodies during the past year. After a previous year period where we mobilized and informed our members of Collective Bargaining tentative to eventual signing, this past year was very busy with assisting members with their new rates of pay and also their retro payments.

The subgroup mobilized as Fix Phoenix and STOP Bill C-24 campaigners. Major events included a BBQ at PSPC - Place du Portage III in September 2017 with 350 members and also a Christmas Members Networking event where 117 members attended.  

At all these events,   members were given information such as STOP C-27 postcards to send to their Member of Parliament. Guest speaker at the September BBQ was National President Debi Daviau and Subgroup President Peter Gabriel.   All Stewards attended these events and wore their Group Better Together Blue Shirt, which was highly visible.

The Subgroup also sponsored a Steward learning exchange event and several lunch and learns and information sessions for our members.

Recruitment:

Steward Recruitment and executive Recruitment is critical to our success. Several emails were sent from PIPSC HQ to encourage new recruits and it paid off.

We welcome new steward Kimberley Seguin to our ranks in 2018 .

In our Subgroup Executive ranks, we are comprised with Hong Xu, Shaila Singh, Alex Lamoureux, William Bradley,  Valerie Nguyen, Gord Sanford, James Bright, Andrée Doucet - Secretary, Mark Walton – Secretary, Terry Sing – Treasurer and Peter Gabriel - President.  Our next AGM will be in June 2018.  

Participation:

The Subgroup Stewards and Executives, participated heavily this past year in Regional Councils and Steward Councils. With nearly 17 stewards throughout the year, and 11 executives, I am proud to say that most of the Stewards and Executives participated and gave up their weekends for these Councils. Job well done!

As for our Finance Report, we utilized nearly our entire funding allocation this past year on mobilization of members that covered costs to our events, and also visibility shirts.
